Founded in 1999, Learning Matters has become one of the UK’s leading independent academic publishers.

We publish books and ebooks for professional and vocational courses studied at universities and colleges. Although our books are usually referred to as textbooks, we think of them as “learning books” – we work very hard to make sure each series and each title will help students learn the subject knowledge and skills appropriate to their course, as well as prepare for their subsequent professional career.

Our first titles were for students on teacher training courses and we now also publish in social work, nursing, policing, youth work, sport and counselling.

Our approach to publishing is to understand the needs of our market, and to publish titles that clearly reflect those needs.

Our approach to business is to keep things simple, and always to aim to do things as well as we can.
